Pepito’s birthday

Pepito has been with us for two years now and since he’s a rescue and we don’t know his true birthday, we’re using his adoption date as his birthday.

To celebrate this day, we give him a dinner of wet food.

Pepito LOVES his wet food and only has eyes for it.

Walk in the park

Since it was such a nice day, we figured we’d take Pepito on a little walk down to the park that used to be part of the VA hospital. As always, Pepito was more than ready to go for the walk.

Before we left, I noticed some bumblebees.

Out in the park, I started to take pictures of thistles as they were covered with bumblebees

Pepito had a great time down there…

…especially since he was able to do his most favorite thing in the world – pee on things.

After the walk, which was about an hour long, he was more than ready for a nap.

Butterfly bush

Next to my parent’s deck is a big white butterfly bush. Even though it was the end of the season for the bush, there were still some flowers and a wonderful butterfly.

New delicious cheese

I decided to stopy by DiBruno’s and pick up a new cheese. This was one on display and is a nice creamy earthy cheese. I love a nice raw milk cheese.

Morning on the farm

This is the view from Javier’s parent’s farm. It’s looking out over the valley. The main city of Caguas is in a valley to the left (I never figured out the whole NESW thing while there).

Chilindrina

Javier’s mother has a little chihuahua named Chilindrina. She’s about two pounds and quite friendly.

For some reason, she doesn’t like to eat her food and only likes the big dog’s food.

Javier’s mother also has a cat that had a litter of kitens. Only one has survived and because chilindrina thinks the kitten is hers, she has to be kept out of the garage.

Here’s the kitten hiding under a statue of the Virgin Mary.

morning pick-me-up

On our way to pick up Elba and Roy, we drove by Cafe Crema, the coffee plant of Caguas. Even though I’m not a coffee drinker, it smelled wonderful!

Coqui

After meeting Javier’s parents and unpacking the car, it was time for me to shower and change clothes. Since it was evening, the coqui (little frogs that live in Puerto Rico and chirp all night long) were out singing, but for some reason, it was really loud in my room. We went into the bathroom and found that one had managed to get into the house and into the shower.

It was on the wall of the shower hiding behind a bottle of shampoo.

By morning, it was gone.

I missed the little one.

Los Gorditos

After the afternoon at the beach in San Juan, Javier and I drove south to Caguas as we were going to be staying with his parents for a few days.

He had just been to a little Puerto Rican fast food joint that he loved and he had to take me. The place is called Los Gorditos or the little fat guy.

We got in line and ordered.

I went for the combo platter with fried chicken, mofongo with pork, flank steak, and pork with onions.

It was wonderful and I ate every last bit – even the onions which I’m not usually a big fan of unless they are completely cooked.

Javier had the pork and onions with mofongo with pork.

We left fat and happy.
